Is this what is causing the lag, and is this normal? I'm just curious, if anybody has a solution it would be greatly appreciated.Īdditional Information: I use the drive both as a backup for windows and for transporting large files (movies, music, photos etc) between PC's. One of my cores jumps to nearly 100%, and the others are unaffected, as well as memory usage. I had to send back my WD 4TB passport as it keep saying 'preparing backup'.
#WD MY PASSPORT STUCK ON PREPARING BACKUP INSTALL#
Tried a brand new cable, nothing changed. The first time you install the WD My Passport Ultra 1TB drive into a USB port it will be automatically detected by your PC just like a traditional flash drive and. I click 'initialize' and it tries to do something, then comes up with 'The operation could not be performed due to an I/o error' or words to that effect. Left it plugged in overnight to see if it was running the whole fsck check thing I saw mentioned many times. The drive doesnt show up in my computer, but when I go to the disk manager tool, its there, recognized as WD my passport, 500gb and says it needs to be initialized. The Mac can see it in Disk Utility but it is greyed out and wont mount. I checked my CPU usage when I plug the drive in, and this is what I got: Details: WD My Passport, S/N WXE1E13JHDC1. You can check my specs on my profile, but basically, I would have thought that my rig could handle such a simple task without a hitch (I have an i5-3570K). Although this is not a massive problem, it does get quite annoying, as I am often plugging and unplugging the drive from my system. Recently, whenever I plug in my WD My Passport 750gb external hard drive into my PC, I get a massive lag spike that lasts around 30 seconds (it basically freezes the computer).
